About Sara
Sara’s first memory of sewing was around the age of three. While living on a boat, Dad had added a hand crank to Mom’s sewing machine to be used without electricity. Without the worry that her daughter would sew through her finger, she could often be found sewing a zig-zag on a scrap of fabric and then using a seam ripper to take it out!
…and I have been using a seam ripper ever since!
Growing up, sewing was just an everyday part of my life. When my mom had her sewing business, I could always talk to her while she worked at her sewing machine, standing at the ironing board pressed a finished hem or cutting out one of hundreds of futons she made for a local shop. I realize now how special those times together were and how important it was that she was always around for me.
Once I realized that spending my high school afternoons working at a sewing machine store was fun I found myself hungry to expand my sewing expertise.
From rethreading little old ladies sergers to teaching some of the monthly clubs, I knew that I loved to sew!
Fast forward a couple years, I found myself as a full-time, cross-country educator and trainer for Bernina of America. Learning every inside and out of all the Bernina sewing machines, traveling and teaching Bernina dealers how to make these machines sing, and coming up with industry leading techniques and projects filled my every waking hour! Being a single California gal, I was having the time of my life doing what I loved!
The next couple years became a blur once I met my soon to be husband at a Bernina training, fell in love and was promoted to head Oklahoma Embroidery’s education department. I soon found out that uprooting a South Dakota boy to live in hot-hot Oklahoma for 3 ½ years would be both great for the experience and good for our new marriage, but he would eventually want to return home.
Sioux Falls, SD has been our home since November 2001 and Heirloom Creations has become the happening place for people who love to sew! Every day is a pleasant reminder to always do something you love and be the very best of what you do. With fun filled classes and monthly clubs offered almost everyday, anyone can get their sewing fix. We love to be involved in your current sewing projects, projects you are finishing or projects you are just dreaming about. We are so fortunate to have become friends with so many of our customers. Steve and I plan on continuing to be leaders in both our community and in the sewing industry for years to come.
Remember to take time for yourself, sew to relax and think about all you have to be thankful for.
